We got our first snow this week, so of course I had to write about it. Here’s a short poetic offering for those who, like me, are struggling to embrace the fast-approaching winter.
Do you dread it, too? Why or why not?
First Snow
Flurries drop and I wonder—
Did the ground beckon them?
Did the green run out of ink?
Did it need a covering of white?
Is the earth glad
that the storehouses of snow
have opened up their doors?
On second-thought—
I know the earth is glad (I am not).
It has learned to view as rest
the season I consider death.
Now, I wonder—
How much life have I delayed
because I misunderstood change?

Oh, Rosa.... I love these last lines, "How much life have I delayed
because I misunderstood change?"
I for one enjoy the changing seasons, although here in Seattle our snow lasts only 2-3 days at most. I imagine in your neck of the woods it's a different story!
I echo the sentiments of the poem, although I do not dread winter. I love the snow. Because I live in a place where winter is a cloudy, heavily overcast season; to me snow is the brightness of winter.
