I’ve been trying (unsuccessfully) to write an introduction to this piece for the past hour. So, I will let my words speak for themselves. They blessed me as I wrote them, and now, I hope they bless you as you read them. May we continue to experience the beauty of autumn around us. May we let it usher us gently into a season of rest and hope.

Fall(ish) First published in Prosetrics Literary Magazine's fall 2024 issue, Rudeneja I saw pumpkins outside our local supermarket today. They sat round, full of orange matter, begging to be picked to become jack-o-lanterns. Once they parade themselves on neighborhood porches, fall heralds itself. Announcing the time is here—for carving, for gutting out, for finding the beauty in dying. Foliage cascades off trees like a waterfall and my body understands: it must lie dormant under a mountain of unraked leaves. I allow myself to plummet, to be wrapped in brittle veins and brown hues, to be swept away by the blow that scatters the withered green. Death surrounds me and I do not mind it. Where she is, resurrection casts its glorious shadow. So, I rest in this assurance—I will once more be a maple. Sweet, sticky syrup running wild down my trunk. My soul will sing into the wind of many an October night. These bones will not remain tucked away forever. I will rise. But, for now, let me begin my hibernation. - r.e.g.
Some literary news…
I am currently offering seasonal prints for my autumn poems! These are typed by me on my typewriter and can be purchased with a frame or stamped (see below). As of right now, the poems available as prints are “A Blessing for Autumn,” or an excerpt from “Fall(ish)”. If you’re interested in one, feel free to reach out or leave a comment. These make for the perfect fall decor piece or gift! If you have custom poetry requests, or would like me to create a print from another poem of mine you really like, I can do that, too!
